When you have a tooth out the supporting structures get crushed by the movements of the tooth being extracted unless the tooth is really loose.
Fortunately the tissues of the mouth are quick to recover so the pain after the anaesthetic wears off is minor and short lived unless the extraction was difficult. Usually a couple of asprins are all that's required.
For most people bleeding isn't an issue, if it is then direct pressure by biting on a moistened handkerchief usually does the trick.
Extractions in the lower jaw are complicated by food getting in. Rinsing out with salty water is the textbook advice, but in my own experience rinsing with cold milk is effective.
