"use the floss Luke"

OK smart guy, how DO you brush then?

It's a truth universally acknowledged that a man in possession of some teeth must know how to clean then!

HOWEVER, lets clarify what should (and shouldn't ) be done:

First, frequency, start with  AT LEAST twice a day.

Next exactly when?: In the morning JUST before leaving home. In the evening JUST before going to bed. Ideally a third time after lunch is A Good Idea.

Next how?: ideally using an electric toothbrush (I'm currently recommending the Oral B Professional 500) and low abrasivity toothpaste (for instance Tesco Sensitive[1]) using a volume of toothpaste about the same as a large pea, brushing all the surfaces, taking a minimum of two minutes and paying special attention to the difficult to reach areas.

Finally, and just before flossing of course, just spit out or rinse with a very small amount of water, so that at least some of the toothpaste stays in your mouth. This will aid in plaque removal and help get the most benefit from the fluoride in the toothpaste.

[1] Generic toothpastes are now good enough.
