How does a root filling actually WORK then?

When a tooth gets infected the normal blood flow in and out of the tooth is stopped. Antibiotics can't get in, the normal tissues are destroyed.

To eliminate the bacteria the root canals have to be cleaned out. To prevent the infection returning later the space has to be filled completely.
